Rohit Sharma Laments Batting Flaws After India-Sri Lanka ODI Ends In Tie

India's captain, Rohit Sharma, expressed his dissatisfaction at the post-match presentation following a surprising tie against Sri Lanka.

The first ODI of the three-match series ended in a draw in Colombo. India failed to score one run with two wickets remaining.

India-Sri Lanka ODI Tie: Sharma Reacts

Shivam Dube and Arshdeep Singh were both dismissed by Sri Lanka's captain Charith Asalanka. This unexpected turn resulted in India's 10th tie in ODIs. Despite having players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, India couldn't chase a modest target of 231 runs.

After the match, Rohit expressed his disappointment with the batting performance. He mentioned that the team should have chased down the total and highlighted their lack of consistency.

"The scores are gettable, it's just that you have to bat well to get that score. We batted well in patches. There was no consistent momentum through the game for us. We started really well with the bat but we knew the game will start after 10 overs once the spinners come in to bowl. We had the upper hand to start with, then we lost a couple of wickets and fell behind the game. In the end, little disappointing, 14 balls, 1 run to get," Rohit said at the post-match presentation.

Rohit also acknowledged that both teams had some assistance with the ball during the first 25 overs. However, he admitted that batting became easier as the seam wore off.

Importance of Composure

"It's not where you can just come and play your shots and get runs. You have to apply yourself and dig in really well to get that score. Proud of the way how we fought till the end. The game shifted towards both teams at different times. It was important to hold the nerve and stay in the game. We should have got that one run," concluded Rohit.

The Indian team will have an opportunity for a quick comeback when they face Sri Lanka again in the second ODI on Sunday (August 4).
