India Secures Victory Over Sri Lanka In T20I Series: Complete List Of Award Winners

Sri Lanka faced another humiliating defeat as they failed to chase a modest target of 138 runs. Despite being in a strong position at 110/1, they collapsed and were all out for two in the Super Over. This resulted in a 3-0 series loss to India in Pallekele on Tuesday, July 30.

India's spinners played a crucial role in the match. Rinku Singh and Suryakumar Yadav bowled the last two overs, restricting Sri Lanka to 137/8 in their 20 overs. Washington Sundar also impressed with figures of 2/23 from his four overs. Ravi Bishnoi and Riyan Parag contributed with economical spells.

The Super Over was particularly embarrassing for Sri Lanka. They managed only two runs before losing both their wickets within three balls bowled by Washington Sundar. India's Suryakumar Yadav then secured victory by sweeping Maheesha Theekshana's first ball to fine leg, where a misfield resulted in a boundary.

Washington Sundar (Player of the Match): "All the work I did, blessings from God helped me. I wanted to try and stay calm. Very grateful to SKY for throwing the ball to me. Very grateful to get an opportunity. I just need to do what I am supposed to do. We did a bit of homework against their batters. I had to hit the right lengths."

Riyan Parag (India all-rounder): "I was disappointed, should've batted till the end and probably could've got 160. But great effort to 130 and the way we bowled was great. Wanted to keep it (bowling) very simple, it's easy to get carried away (on a wicket like this). It was about keeping it stump to stump.

"I just had to keep it simple. I've been working on the leg-break, tried it in domestic, had some net sessions and it was coming out well. Surya bhai told me to go for it and it came out well. It was fun, we didn't feel the nerves, we planned it in such a way that it was very spontaneous."

Sri Lanka needed just 30 runs off the last five overs with nine wickets remaining but managed only 29 runs while losing eight wickets. This collapse led them into a Super Over situation where they faltered again.

Suryakumar Yadav (India captain and Player of the Series): "More than the last over, I feel when we were around 30/4, how the boys showed character, 140 was a par score on that track. I told if we put our heart in, we could pull it off. The amount of skill they have, self-confidence, it makes my job easy.

"The positivity, the care for each other is unbelievable. After the last game, I told few boys will be rested and they were ready to sit out. They have made my job easy."

IND vs SL 3rd T20I: Key Stats

  • Suryakumar Yadav now has five Player of the Tournament trophies to his name. It is joint second-most for any player after Virat Kohli.
  • This was Sri Lanka's 105th T20I defeat - most by any team in history of the game.

Charith Asalanka (Sri Lanka captain): "I am really disappointed about our batting line-up, middle-order and lower middle-order. Very bad shot selection was the reason. Spinners were bowling that's why Hasaranga came up the order."

"He had the license to hit one or two boundaries; that didn't happen. Wrong shot selection on this pitch. Definitely (it was gettable), we need to do more as professional cricketers."

The match saw India securing a whitewash against Sri Lanka with impressive performances from their bowlers under pressure situations.
