India Opts To Rest Star Bowler Jasprit Bumrah For Upcoming Fourth Test Against England

England's cricket team will not face Jasprit Bumrah, the world's number one-ranked Test bowler, in the upcoming fourth Test in Ranchi. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to rest Bumrah for this match, which begins on Friday. This decision comes after Bumrah's significant contributions to the series so far, including a nine-wicket haul in Visakhapatnam that helped level the series. Despite his efforts, Bumrah had a quieter role in the third Test, securing just one wicket in each innings on a pitch that heavily favored India, leading them to a victory by 434 runs.

India's squad has faced several absences throughout this series, with key players like Virat Kohli missing due to personal reasons and others like Mohammed Shami and Rishabh Pant sidelined by injuries. KL Rahul will also miss the fourth Test due to a quad injury, with his participation in the final match still uncertain. Mukesh Kumar has rejoined the squad in Ranchi after being released for the third Test.

Jasprit Bumrah Rested for Fourth Test

The conditions in Ranchi are not expected to favor fast bowlers, prompting the decision to rest Bumrah ahead of the more seam-friendly conditions anticipated in Dharamshala for the fifth Test. Bumrah leads the series in wickets, with 17 dismissals at an average of 13.64. England's head coach Brendon McCullum expects a turning wicket at the JSCA International Stadium Complex, a venue unfamiliar to most of the England squad except Joe Root. Root, who has struggled with his batting form recently, has taken on a more prominent bowling role, delivering over 107 overs so far.

McCullum addressed inquiries about potentially adjusting Root's batting position to accommodate his bowling workload but stated that no such discussions have taken place. He emphasized Root's commitment to the team and his desire for an increased role within it. As England and India prepare for their next encounter, both teams adjust their strategies and lineups to secure a win in Ranchi.
