India To Field Young Squad In Zimbabwe T20Is Without Kohli, Sharma, Pandya

India's T20 World Cup 2024 campaign is progressing well. The Indian team has secured three group stage victories and advanced to the Super Eights of the tournament.

Following the World Cup, team India will head to Zimbabwe for a T20I series. The series will consist of five T20 matches, starting from July 6.

Several players from the current T20 World Cup squad are expected to be rested for the Zimbabwe series. The Indian team has had a long season, beginning with the England Test series at home.

As the Men in Blue conclude their season in Zimbabwe, selectors are likely to send a young squad. Key players such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah will not participate. Ravindra Jadeja and Suryakumar Yadav are also expected to be omitted from the squad.

Ruturaj Gaikwad is a potential candidate for captaincy during the Zimbabwe tour. He captained Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and may be given an opportunity for this series. Additionally, Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer is also in contention. The KKR skipper led his team to an IPL triumph this season and may reunite with his KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir, who is set to become the next head coach of the Indian team.

Youngsters such as Abhishek Sharma and Riyan Parag are expected to be included in the team for the Zimbabwe tour. Both Sharma and Parag had an outstanding IPL season and are poised to make their India debuts during this tour.

Nitish Reddy, who received the Emerging Player award in IPL 2024, may get a chance. Sanju Samson is likely to be the sole wicketkeeper for team India, while Lucknow Super Giants speedster Mayank Yadav may also be included.
