India To Announce Squad For Sri Lanka T20Is, ODIs: What To Expect

India recently secured a 4-1 victory in the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. The attention now shifts to the upcoming T20I and ODI series in Sri Lanka, starting on Saturday, July 27.

The Indian cricket team will be led by newly-appointed coach Gautam Gambhir for the six white-ball matches in Sri Lanka. The T20I series will end on July 30 in Pallekele, while the ODIs are scheduled for August 2, 4, and 7 in Colombo.

The BCCI selection committee is expected to announce the India squad for the Sri Lanka tour by Sunday, July 21. A few players from the Shubman Gill-led squad that played against Zimbabwe are likely to be retained.

Hardik Pandya is poised to become the permanent T20I captain of the Indian cricket team. Players such as Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson, Ravi Bishnoi, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Washington Sundar, Shivam Dube, Mukesh Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan are expected to make the trip to Sri Lanka.

Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, and Tushar Deshpande might be dropped from the squad. Abhishek Sharma's inclusion remains uncertain despite his century in the second T20I; his overall performance was not very impressive.

Players like Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav are likely to return after being rested following India's T20 World Cup 2024 win in West Indies last month.

Extended Breaks for Key Players

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah may continue their extended breaks. Kohli is currently in London with his family. Rohit Sharma attended Wimbledon 2024 before heading to the USA for an event. Bumrah was seen at Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's wedding ceremony.
