Emerging Indian Cricketers Eye Zimbabwe T20Is Squad Through NCA Training

India's tour of Zimbabwe is set to commence with the first T20I in Harare on July 6. The Indian team for the five-match T20I series is expected to be announced soon, with several IPL stars already training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, hoping to secure a spot.

The tour will begin just a week after the conclusion of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Most senior players and regular members of India's T20I setup are not expected to participate in the series against Zimbabwe.

Indian Talents Aim for Zimbabwe T20Is

The next T20 World Cup is scheduled for 2026, shifting the focus of senior members to Test and ODI matches. The ICC Champions Trophy is slated to be held in Pakistan early next year.

This Zimbabwe tour provides an opportunity for several young players and IPL stars to make their debut. A number of them are already training hard at the NCA, aiming to be selected for the Zimbabwe T20Is.

Players like Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Mayank Yadav, Harshit Rana, Nitish Reddy, Vijaykumar Vyshak, and Yash Dayal are currently at the NCA in Bengaluru ahead of the squad announcement.

These players made significant impacts in IPL 2024. Riyan Parag (RR) was the third-highest run-scorer, while Abhishek Sharma (SRH) ranked tenth. Harshit Rana's 19 wickets were the joint fourth-highest of the season. Mayank Yadav (LSG) gained attention with his pace, and Nitish Reddy (SRH) impressed with his all-round abilities.

Yash Dayal had a notable comeback this season. In a crucial match against CSK, he conceded only seven runs in the final over after being hit for a six on the first ball, helping his team secure a win.

"Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Mayank Yadav, Harshit Rana, Nitish Reddy, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Yash Dayal are all at the camp. Some will go to Zimbabwe T20Is," a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Rinku Singh, Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan and Khaleel Ahmed - who were named as India's travelling reserves for the T20 World Cup 2024 - may also feature in the squad for the T20I series against Zimbabwe. Other potential candidates include Sai Sudharshan, Rahul Tewatia, T Natarajan, Harshal Patel, Varun Chakravarthy, Tilak Varma and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
