India To Revise Squad For Sri Lanka T20Is Following Zimbabwe Tour Insights

India's cricket team is gearing up for a three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka starting on July 27 in Pallekele, followed by three ODI matches in Colombo from August 2. This comes after their recent 4-1 victory over Zimbabwe in Harare.

Shubman Gill led a youthful squad in Zimbabwe due to the absence of senior players. Despite losing the first match, India bounced back to win the next four games consecutively. The players seized this opportunity to showcase their skills ahead of the Sri Lanka tour.

Squad Changes Ahead for Sri Lanka T20Is

Abhishek Sharma, who was dismissed for a duck in his debut match, made a strong comeback by scoring a century in the second game. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson, who did not play in the T20 World Cup 2024, capitalised on their chances in Zimbabwe.

Other players like Rinku Singh, Ravi Bishnoi, Washington Sundar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Mukesh Kumar, and Avesh Khan also made significant contributions. They utilised this series to strengthen their positions for future selections.

However, not all players managed to impress. Riyan Parag scored only 24 runs across two innings with an average of 12 and a strike rate of 88.88. Despite his strong IPL 2024 season with Rajasthan Royals, he couldn't replicate that form in Zimbabwe.

Dhruv Jurel got an opportunity due to Sanju Samson's late arrival in Harare but could only score six runs off 14 balls in one match. His performance might affect his chances for the Sri Lanka T20Is.

Pacer Challenges

Tushar Deshpande from Chennai Super Kings played two matches where he bowled six overs and took two wickets at an average of 27.50 with an economy rate of 9.16. Given India's current abundance of pacers, Deshpande is unlikely to be considered for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka.

The possibility also exists that Abhishek Sharma, Khaleen Ahmed, and Washington Sundar might be dropped after their performances in Zimbabwe.

The upcoming series against Sri Lanka will be crucial for these young players as they continue to vie for spots in India's cricket team amidst tough competition and high expectations.
