India To Announce Squad For Sri Lanka Tour, New T20I Captain Eyed

India's squad for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka is expected to be revealed soon. The announcement is likely to take place on Wednesday, July 17, or Thursday. The tour will commence with the first T20I in Pallekele on Saturday, July 27, followed by the ODI series starting on August 2.

Reports suggest that Suryakumar Yadav might replace Hardik Pandya as the new T20I captain. This decision is being considered with a long-term perspective for the Indian T20I team. Hardik Pandya has struggled with fitness issues over the years, prompting selectors to choose a more consistently available player.

India's Squad, New Captain Soon

Head coach Gautam Gambhir has encouraged senior players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah to participate in the three ODIs. According to The Indian Express, there will be a month-long break after these matches, making it feasible for these key players to join the squad.

Hardik Pandya has made himself unavailable for selection for the ODI series against Sri Lanka due to personal reasons. If Rohit Sharma also decides to sit out, selectors will need to appoint a stand-in captain for the series.

Currently, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are abroad with their families. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah was recently seen attending Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's wedding ceremony.

The Indian Express reported that Hardik Pandya has requested not to be considered for the ODI series due to personal commitments. This leaves selectors with the challenge of finding a suitable replacement if other senior players also opt out.

The squad announcement will cover both T20I and ODI series consisting of three matches each. Fans eagerly await the final list of players who will represent India in this white-ball tour of Sri Lanka.

The newly-appointed white-ball coach of India wants key players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah to feature in the ODI leg of the tour despite their current engagements.

This upcoming tour is crucial as it provides an opportunity for new leadership under Suryakumar Yadav while testing senior players' commitment amidst their personal schedules.
