India Triumphs In T20 World Cup Final, Edges Out South Africa In Nail-Biter
India clinched their second T20 World Cup title after a thrilling seven-run victory over South Africa in Barbados. The match reached a nail-biting climax, with South Africa needing 16 runs from the final over. Hardik Pandya's hat-trick, dismissing David Miller and Kagiso Rabada, sealed the win for India.
Virat Kohli played a pivotal role, scoring 76 runs off 59 balls, his highest in the tournament. His performance helped India set a challenging target of 177, the highest ever in a men's T20 World Cup final. Kohli's innings ended in the penultimate over when he was caught by Marco Jansen off Kagiso Rabada's delivery.

South Africa faced early setbacks, losing two wickets within the first three overs. Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Reeza Hendricks with an outswinger, and Arsheep Singh had Aiden Markram caught behind by Rishabh Pant. Despite these early losses, Heinrich Klaasen's aggressive 52 off 27 balls kept South Africa in contention.
Klaasen received support from Quinton de Kock (39) and Tristan Stubbs (31), bringing South Africa close to the target. However, Klaasen's dismissal in the 17th over by Pandya and Bumrah's subsequent removal of Jansen left South Africa struggling.
Kohli had not been at his best throughout the tournament, with his highest score being 37 against Bangladesh until this match. He rose to the occasion in the final, becoming only the third player to score more than fifty runs in multiple T20 World Cup finals. Kohli hinted that this might be his last T20I appearance after receiving the Man-of-the-Match award.
"3 - @ImVkohli became just the third player to score more than fifty runs in multiple Men's @T20WorldCup finals (after Marlon Samuels and Kumar Sangakkara); in fact, he has never scored less than fifty runs in a #T20WorldCup final. Consistent." - OptaJeev (@OptaJeev) June 29, 2024
Klaasen's Record-Breaking Effort
Despite falling short, Klaasen's performance was remarkable. He achieved his half-century in just 23 balls, setting a new record for the fastest 50 in a T20 World Cup final. This surpassed Mitchell Marsh's previous record of a 31-ball half-century for Australia in 2021.

A Long-Awaited Triumph for India
This victory marks India's first T20 World Cup title since winning the inaugural edition in 2007. They join England and West Indies as teams with multiple titles (two each). India's consistent performance throughout the tournament established them as deserving champions.

South Africa needed heroics from their tail-enders but fell short as desperate swings from Miller (21) and Rabada (4) went unrewarded. Pandya finished with impressive figures of 3-20.
If Kohli indeed retires from T20Is, he leaves on a high note with another stellar performance under pressure.
