India Champions Crowned Winners Of World Championship Of Legends 2024

India Champions clinched the World Championship of Legends 2024 title with a decisive 5-wicket victory over Pakistan Champions at Edgbaston on Saturday, July 13. Chasing a target of 157 set by Pakistan, Yuvraj Singh's team achieved the goal in 19.1 overs, losing five wickets along the way. Irfan Pathan sealed the win with a boundary.

India started well but faced early setbacks when Robin Uthappa (10 off 8 balls) and Suresh Raina (4 off 2) were dismissed in the same over by Aamer Yamin. However, Ambati Rayudu and Gurkeerat Singh Mann steadied the innings with a crucial 50-run partnership for the third wicket. Rayudu's impressive 50 off 30 balls earned him the player of the match award.

India Wins Legends Championship 2024

Yusuf Pathan's explosive innings further tilted the game in India's favour. He scored a quickfire 30 runs off just 16 balls, including two sixes and one four, before being caught by Maqsood off Riaz. Skipper Yuvraj Singh and Irfan Pathan then guided India to victory with five balls to spare.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan captain Younis Khan won the toss and chose to bat first. Kamran Akmal gave his team a good start with a quickfire 24 off 19 balls. However, regular wickets hindered their progress, with Sharjeel Khan (12) and Maqsood (21) falling early.

Shoaib Malik played a vital role in stabilising Pakistan's innings with his knock of 41 runs from just 23 balls, hitting three fours and two sixes. Despite this effort, Younis Khan couldn't make a significant impact, scoring only seven runs off 11 balls before getting out.

Lower-Order Contributions Boost Pakistan's Total

A pivotal moment came when Misbah had to retire hurt after scoring 18 off 15 balls, complicating Pakistan's innings further. Contributions from Aamer Yamin (7) and Sohail Tanvir's unbeaten cameo of 19 from nine balls helped Pakistan post a respectable total of 156 for six in their allotted 20 overs.

India's bowling attack was led by Anureet Singh who took three wickets for 43 runs. Vinay Kumar and Harbhajan Singh also contributed effectively while Irfan Pathan bowled an economical spell to keep Pakistan's scoring rate in check.

Bowlers' Efforts: Key to India's Victory

Pawan Negi managed to break partnerships at crucial moments despite being expensive. Rahul Shukla was economical as he conceded only 31 runs from his four overs. These efforts collectively restricted Pakistan to a manageable total.

Aamer Yamin was Pakistan’s standout bowler, taking two wickets for just 29 runs in his three overs. However, his efforts were insufficient as there weren't enough runs on the board for Pakistan to defend successfully.

Awards and Recognitions

Yusuf Pathan was named player of the tournament for his dominant performance throughout the competition. Ambati Rayudu received the player of the match award for his crucial half-century that anchored India's chase in the final.

The World Championship of Legends concluded with India Champions emerging victorious, showcasing remarkable performances both with bat and ball throughout the tournament.
