India Sets New T20I Records With Mammoth 219 Runs Against South Africa In Centurion

India's cricket team achieved several records with their impressive batting performance in the third T20I against South Africa on Wednesday, November 13. The match saw India setting a new benchmark for T20I totals in South Africa, showcasing their batting prowess.

Tilak Varma was the star of the show, scoring an outstanding 107 runs off just 50 balls. This helped India amass a formidable total of 219 runs at Centurion. Abhishek Sharma also made a significant contribution, silencing his critics with a quickfire 50 from just 25 balls. Hardik Pandya added 18 runs, while debutant Ramandeep Singh chipped in with a brisk 15 off six deliveries.

India Achieves Record 219 Runs in Centurion

India's total of 219 at Centurion is now the highest T20I score ever recorded on South African soil. This achievement surpassed India's previous record of 218 against England during the 2007 T20 World Cup in Durban, a match famous for Yuvraj Singh hitting six sixes in an over.

In addition to this feat, India equalled the record for the most individual centuries scored by a team in a calendar year. In 2024, Indian players have hit five international centuries, matching the achievements of Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2016 and India itself in 2023. The centurions for India this year include Rohit Sharma (121* vs Afghanistan), Abhishek Sharma (100 vs Zimbabwe), Sanju Samson (111 vs Bangladesh and 107 vs South Africa), and Tilak Varma (107 vs South Africa).

Furthermore, India set another record by achieving their eighth score of over 200 runs in T20 matches during 2024. This surpasses the previous record held by Birmingham Bears in 2022, India in 2023, and Japan in 2024, each with seven such scores.

The Indian team's remarkable performance not only secured them victory but also etched their names into cricket history with these records. Their ability to consistently deliver high-scoring performances highlights their strength and depth in batting.
