India Includes Devdutt Padikkal In First Test Squad Against Australia Due To Injury Concerns
India has made a strategic decision by adding Devdutt Padikkal to their squad for the first Test against Australia, starting in Perth on November 22. This move comes after Padikkal's impressive performance during India A's tour of Australia, where he scored a notable 88 against Australia A in Mackay.
Padikkal, who debuted for Team India earlier this year, has shown remarkable form and consistency. His inclusion is due to Shubman Gill's injury, which he sustained during a simulation match in Perth. Padikkal's recent performances have positioned him as a strong candidate to replace Gill.

Yash Dayal, a left-arm pacer, has been added as a travelling reserve for the team. Previously part of the squad for the New Zealand Test series, Dayal joins reserves Mukesh Kumar, Navdeep Saini, and Khaleel Ahmed. Although not officially confirmed, there are speculations about potential injuries among the reserves that might have led to Dayal's inclusion.
Gill has been crucial to India's recent victories and was expected to be key against Australia's bowlers like Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc. If Gill is unavailable, young players such as Padikkal or Abhimanyu Easwaran may step up to fill his role.
The full squad for the first Test includes Jasprit Bumrah as captain, with players like Virat Kohli and KL Rahul also featuring prominently. The team is bolstered by experienced names such as Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. The reserves include Mukesh Kumar and Navdeep Saini among others.
Rohit Sharma is anticipated to rejoin the team before the second Test after staying back for personal reasons. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah will lead India in the opening match against Australia.
