PM Modi, Amit Shah, MS Dhoni Apply For India Cricket Team Coaching Role
In an unexpected twist, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) received numerous applications from high-profile personalities for the Indian team head coach's job.
The Indian cricket team is set to have a new head coach as Rahul Dravid's tenure ends with the conclusion of the T20 World Cup. The apex body of cricket in India set out an advertisement for the coaching role.

The BCCI had invited applications through a Google form. Accessible to everyone, fans spurred the chance to spam the portal with fake names.
Among the names submitted were legendary cricketers Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni. Fans also included India's Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, and Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah, in the prank.
The BCCI ended up with over 3000 applications for the coach's job but only a handful of these are genuine.
Current Indian head coach Rahul Dravid's tenure will end after the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the United States. Speculations suggest that legendary batter VVS Laxman might succeed his former teammate. Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir has also risen as a potential candidate after leading KKR to the IPL 2024 title.
Although a few foreign players have been speculated to be in the fray, BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed that they didn't talk with any Australian or New Zealand coaches for the role.
The majority of the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team has arrived in the United States for the T20 World Cup. They will face Bangladesh in a warm-up game before playing against Ireland in their tournament opener on June 5. They have been slotted in Group A with Ireland, Canada, co-hosts USA and arch-rivals Pakistan.
