Harshit Rana Acknowledges Virat Kohli And Jasprit Bumrah's Guidance In Test Debut Performance

Harshit Rana made a memorable Test debut during the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy match against Australia in Perth. On Day 2, he took three wickets for 48 runs, helping India dominate the game. His performance, alongside skipper Jasprit Bumrah, was pivotal in bowling out Australia for just 104 runs in their first innings.

Rana's efforts contributed to India gaining a significant lead, which extended to 218 by the end of the day. After the match, he expressed gratitude towards his captain Jasprit Bumrah and cricket legend Virat Kohli for their guidance. "It helps a lot to have advice from Virat bhaiya and Jassi bhaiya," Rana said post-play. "Their inputs on where to bowl and their confidence in me gave me a special kind of self-belief."

Rana Credits Kohli and Bumrah for Debut Success

Bumrah's leadership was crucial as he led the team in Rohit Sharma's absence. His opening spell dismantled Australia's top order, taking four of the first six wickets. His figures of 5/30 showcased his mastery over the conditions. Rana acknowledged Bumrah's influence, stating, "Jassi bhaiya creates pressure from one end, making it easier for the other bowlers. It calmed my nerves and gave me clarity."

Travis Head's dismissal was a key moment in the match. Rana explained that meticulous planning led to this pivotal wicket. "We had talked as a side about how to set up a batter. The idea was to attack the stumps, and it worked perfectly," he shared.

Rana also credited his family and head coach Gautam Gambhir for their support before his debut. He mentioned how Gambhir advised him to be patient and seize opportunities while his father encouraged him not to overthink things.

The second day's action wasn't limited to bowling alone. Indian openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal extended India's advantage with an unbeaten partnership of 172 runs. Australia's head coach Andrew McDonald acknowledged the challenge ahead, saying they need to adapt quickly.

"They've (India) got the driver's seat at the moment, but Test cricket twists and turns," McDonald remarked. As India strengthens its position, Day 3 will be crucial for Australia if they hope to make a comeback or risk falling further behind in this opening clash.
