Harry Brook Hits Eighth Century, Joins Elite Group With Over 1000 Runs In 2024
Harry Brook, the England batter, achieved a significant milestone by scoring his eighth century during the first day of the second Test against New Zealand at Wellington's Basin Reserve. This achievement came on December 6, marking another successful outing for Brook against the Kiwis.
Brook's performance in New Zealand has been remarkable, with consistent success in their conditions. His latest century adds to his impressive record against New Zealand, having scored a century in consecutive Tests at the Basin Reserve.

Brook's recent innings placed him among the top run-scorers of 2024. He joined Joe Root, Ben Duckett, and India's Yashasvi Jaiswal as one of four players to surpass 1000 Test runs this year. The list of leading run-scorers includes:

- Yashasvi Jaiswal (India) - 1280 runs in 24 innings
- Harry Brook (England) - 1044 runs in 17 innings

Sri Lanka's Kamindu Mendis is also close to joining this elite group. With five centuries this year, he has had an outstanding season and could soon reach the 1000-run mark.

The match saw England initially struggle after being put into bat by Tom Latham. They were reduced to a precarious position at 43/4 before Brook's century and Ollie Pope's half-century helped them recover to post a total of 280/10 in just over fifty-four overs.
