Harmanpreet Kaur Among First Indian Nominees For WBBL Draft 2024

Indian cricket captain Harmanpreet Kaur is one of three Indian players who have declared their nominations for the upcoming Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) draft, scheduled for September 1, 2024. She will be joined by fellow Indians Deepti Sharma and Jemimah Rodrigues.

In addition to the Indian trio, South Africa's Laura Wolvaardt and England's Sophie Ecclestone are also part of the first batch of nominees revealed for the WBBL overseas drafts. Ecclestone, ranked as the number one bowler in both ODIs and T20Is, is among several prominent names.

England captain Heather Knight, along with Danni Wyatt and Alice Capsey, has also been nominated. However, due to a tour of South Africa from late November, England players will not be available for the entire tournament.

The availability of Laura Wolvaardt might also be affected by her national commitments. However, her compatriot Shabnim Ismail will participate fully in the tournament following her retirement from international cricket last year.

Suzie Bates from New Zealand is another notable nominee eligible for retention alongside seven other players. These include South Africa's Wolvaardt and Ismail, India's Harmanpreet, and England's Knight, Ecclestone, and Wyatt.

The WBBL season is set to run from October 27 to December 1. Players in the draft are categorized into Platinum, Gold, Silver, or Bronze tiers. Clubs must select at least two players from these categories. Those with pre-draft agreements will receive picks based on their salary bands.
