Hardik Pandya To Miss IPL 2025 Opening Match After Ban For Slow Over-Rate
Hardik Pandya has faced significant challenges during the IPL 2024, culminating in Mumbai Indians' defeat against Lucknow Super Giants. This loss resulted in Mumbai Indians finishing at the bottom of the table for the second time in three years. However, the situation for Hardik Pandya is even more troubling.
Pandya, under scrutiny throughout the season, has had a tough start as the new captain of Mumbai Indians. The conclusion of IPL 2024 has added to his woes. The MI captain has been banned for one match due to maintaining a slow over-rate in the game against Lucknow Super Giants. This is Mumbai Indians' third over-rate violation this season, leading to the ban and an additional Rs 30 lakh fine for Pandya.

Furthermore, each player of the Mumbai Indians' playing XI, including the Impact Player, has been fined Rs 12 lakh or 50 percent of their match fee, whichever is less, for the slow over-rate breach.
The ban cannot be enforced this season as Mumbai Indians have been eliminated from IPL 2024. However, it will carry forward to next season, meaning Hardik Pandya will miss the first match of IPL 2025. It is likely that Pandya will continue to represent and captain Mumbai Indians next year, indicating a strong possibility that MI will be without Pandya for their opening match next season.
