T20 World Cup 2024: Hardik Pandya's Spectacular Six Steals The Show

Bridgetown (Barbados), June 20: India all-rounder Hardik Pandya played a pivotal role in India's batting lineup with a crucial knock of 32 off 24 balls against Afghanistan at Kensington Oval on Thursday (June 20).

The vice-captain of the Indian cricket team in the white-ball format shared an essential 60-run partnership off 37 balls for the fifth wicket with Suryakumar Yadav, steering India through a precarious phase and helping the team post a respectable total on the board. Pandya's Epic 98m Six at T20 WC

India's captain, Rohit Sharma, won the toss and elected to bat first. However, the top-order batsmen struggled to make a significant impact, with Rohit Sharma (8 off 13), Virat Kohli (24 off 24), Rishabh Pant (20 off 11), and Shivam Dube (7 off 10) getting dismissed early, leaving India at a shaky 90/4 within 11 overs.

At this critical juncture, Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav (SKY) were expected to deliver a solid performance to stabilise the innings. SKY, who had already proven his match-winning capabilities in the previous game, did not disappoint. He played a blistering knock of 53 off 28 balls before being dismissed in the 17th over.

Hardik, recognising the need to accelerate the scoring, showcased his power-hitting abilities in the next over. He launched a massive 98-meter Six off pacer Naveen-ul-Haq.

The right-arm pacer bowled a slower leg-cutter on the middle stump, but it was a bit too full. Hardik cleared his front foot and hammered the ball deep into the stands, with the ball disappearing outside the stadium despite hitting against the wind. This incredible shot left Virat Kohli and his teammates jubilant as play was stopped for a few minutes to replace the ball.

However, Hardik's innings came to an end shortly after his spectacular six, as he was caught in the deep by Azmatullah Shahidi. Despite his brief stay at the crease, Hardik's and SKY's partnership laid a solid foundation for a big score. India managed to post a competitive total of 181/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

This performance by Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav highlights their importance in the Indian batting lineup, especially in critical situations. Their contributions were instrumental in ensuring that India had a defendable total against Afghanistan.
