Gujarat Titans Set A New Green Standard In Cricket With Eco-Friendly Initiatives
Gujarat Titans, after three IPL campaigns, are taking significant steps to promote sustainability and eco-friendly practices, especially in waste management.
They have partnered with Nepra Resource Management Pvt. Ltd. (NEPRA) to implement a sustainable waste management programme during IPL 2024. Their efforts are setting a new standard in the cricketing world and inspiring fans and communities to adopt more sustainable lifestyles.

One of the Gujarat Titans' primary initiatives was the installation of zero-waste measures at their home stadium. This includes extensive efforts to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste generated during matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Collaboration with NEPRA was crucial in ensuring efficient waste segregation at the source and diverting trash away from landfills.
In IPL 2023, GT implemented a similar strategy, diverting only 2% of the waste created across seven home matches. Last year, a partnership with Bisleri recycled plastic into school benches. These benches were among several schools in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, and Bhuj.
Furthermore, the Gujarat Titans attempted to decrease their greenhouse gas footprint by reducing Scope 3 category emissions through active cooperation with Gujarat Metro, the use of electric cars for transportation, and the usage of public buses for the five home matches.
The franchise has also taken proactive steps to educate and engage fans on the importance of sustainable waste management. This includes running stadium awareness campaigns during matches, through pre-game announcements, interactive activities, and utilising social media platforms to spread the message.
Goals and Achievements
According to reports, GT diverted a considerable quantity of 75,557 kg of waste during the first five home games of IPL 2024. The diverted waste included 6,400 kg of wet waste transferred to Bharuch Enviro Infrastructure Limited for composting and 69,157 kg of dry waste, which was recycled. This commitment includes not just diverting waste but also converting it into valuable commodities such as fertiliser. NEPRA's material recovery facility separated dry waste into recyclable materials efficiently, resulting in an additional 24% being diverted from landfills, substantially lowering the team's ecological footprint.
Colonel Arvinder Singh, Chief Operating Officer of Gujarat Titans, said, "We are proud of our sustainability initiatives that have led to significant progress in minimising our negative environmental impact during the TATA IPL 2024...Responsible behaviour on and off the field is an integral part of our conduct at Gujarat Titans. We are alive to the challenges that all of us face and shall strive to make a difference with our sustainable initiatives...Our partnership with NEPRA, along with the enthusiastic participation of our fans, has been instrumental in achieving these results."
IPL 2024 had been a season of heartbreak for GT fans due to the shambolic displays by the Subman Gill-led squad on the field. But this exemplary initiative and its significant achievement will be a matter of pride for the Titans in the upcoming days.
