Gujarat Titans Triumph Over Chennai Super Kings, Keeping Playoff Dreams Alive In IPL 2024
In a thrilling encounter that kept the fans on the edge of their seats, Gujarat Titans (GT) clinched a vital 35-run victory against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 59th match of IPL 2024, held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, May 10. This win rejuvenated GT's hopes for a spot in the playoffs, showcasing a high-octane performance against the five-time champions CSK.
The match saw GT setting a formidable total of 231/3 after being put into bat first. The spotlight was stolen by Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill, who both scored centuries, contributing 103 and 104 runs respectively. Their partnership broke records, amassing 210 runs together, which became a cornerstone for GT's massive total. Tushar Deshpande from CSK managed to pick two wickets, while Shahrukh Khan was run out early, and David Miller remained unbeaten with a quick 16 off 11 balls.

Chasing a daunting target, CSK faced early setbacks, losing three wickets within the initial three overs. However, Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali tried to steady the ship with their century partnership, scoring 63 and 56 runs respectively. Despite their efforts, Mohit Sharma's exceptional bowling (3/31) dismantled CSK's middle order. Rashid Khan also contributed significantly with his two wickets, including the crucial dismissal of Ravindra Jadeja. MS Dhoni's cameo of 26 runs off 11 balls wasn't enough to take CSK over the line, marking their sixth defeat of the season.

Rashid Khan (GT Spinner): "You love to watch those two (Gill and Sudharsan), really enjoyed the way they played, happy to be on the winning side though. Happy to get a couple of wickets, my body is feeling better. Had a back issue, it's good and it's better now, very soon I will be all fit. I have bowled against him (Dhoni), when he comes to play it's a different feeling, it gives us a good energy, happy to play with him."
Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK Captain): "Our fielding let us down, we gave away 10-15 runs extra I think, execution wise we were good, but they played some really good shots. You can't control batters when they playing so well and going good. It's real quick, we got to fly quick and we have a tough game in Chennai, so we got to turn up well there as well."
Shubman Gill (GT captain and Man of the Match): "Yeah just a cramp, nothing else (reason for being off the field). When you've got 100k people supporting you, becomes easier. Just the freeness of it. When we were batting out there, we didn't have any targets in mind. Were just maximising the opportunities in front of us. We have a good camaraderie between us. Even last year we batted a lot together.
