Wife Reveals Graham Thorpe's Battle With Depression Before Tragic Death
Graham Thorpe, a former England cricketer, passed away on August 5 at the age of 55. His death has left the cricket community in deep sorrow.
Amanda, Thorpe's wife, disclosed that he had been battling mental health issues for years. She revealed that he had been suffering from severe depression and anxiety.

Amanda shared that despite having a loving family, Thorpe could not overcome his mental health struggles. "Despite having a wife and two daughters whom he loved and who loved him, he did not get better," she told The Times.
Thorpe's mental health issues led to a serious suicide attempt in May 2022. This incident resulted in an extended stay in intensive care. Amanda noted that although there were moments of improvement, his condition remained critical.
Thorpe's cricket career was remarkable. He played 100 Test Matches and 82 One Day Internationals for England. In 1997, he was named Wisden Cricketer of the Year after scoring consecutive centuries during the Ashes series.
He amassed 9000 runs in international cricket, including 16 centuries. Known for his mental toughness on the field, Thorpe maintained good physical health throughout his career.
Amanda's Revelations
Amanda revealed that Thorpe believed his family would be better off without him due to his deteriorating mental health. "He was so unwell in recent times and he really did believe that we would be better off without him," she said.
"For the past couple of years, Graham had been suffering from major depression and anxiety," Amanda added. Despite numerous treatments and family support, none seemed effective.
The cricket world mourns the loss of Graham Thorpe while acknowledging the importance of mental health awareness. His legacy on the field remains significant despite his personal struggles.
