Glenn Phillips Likely To Ignite Bidding War Among Four Teams In IPL 2025 Auction
Glenn Phillips, a versatile cricketer from New Zealand, was released by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) after some lacklustre performances. Despite this, he is expected to attract significant interest in the upcoming IPL Mega Auction 2025.
SRH has retained players like Heinrich Klaasen, Pat Cummins, and Travis Head as their capped overseas players. They also kept Abhishek Sharma and Nitish Kumar Reddy ahead of the IPL 2025 Auction scheduled for November 24 and 25.

Phillips, who was bought by SRH in the 2022 IPL Mega Auction for Rs 1.50 Crore, cannot be retained using the Right to Match (RTM) card due to SRH's capped retention slots being full. Before joining SRH, Phillips played for Rajasthan Royals in 2021 as a replacement for Jofra Archer.
The Kiwi all-rounder is likely to enter the auction with a reserve price of Rs 1.50 Crore. His recent performances for New Zealand might have increased his value just in time for the IPL Auction.
Phillips has played only eight IPL matches with SRH and RR, scoring 65 runs and taking two wickets. However, he has improved significantly as a player who can bat, bowl, field, and keep wickets.
His overall T20 stats are impressive: he has scored 6,471 runs in 236 innings at a strike rate of 140.58. He has hit five hundreds and 43 fifties across various leagues, along with smashing 341 sixes and 489 fours.
Bowling Skills on Display
The right-arm spin all-rounder has also taken 23 wickets in 45 bowling innings. Although he hasn't kept wickets recently for New Zealand or most franchise teams, Phillips has executed ten stumpings and claimed 136 catches behind the stumps.
In a recent Test series in India and a T20I against Sri Lanka where New Zealand defended a low total of 108, Phillips showcased his bowling skills. He was tasked with defending eight runs in the final over against Pathum Nissanka and succeeded by conceding just two runs while taking three wickets.
Potential Bidding War
This performance was one of many standout moments for Phillips. If chosen by the right team, he could establish himself as one of the best all-rounders in the IPL. The question remains: which team will take a chance on him? Could this spark a bidding war?
Teams Interested in Phillips
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) might lead the race to sign Phillips as they need an all-rounder who can finish games. RCB could face competition from Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, and Punjab Kings at the auction table.
Mumbai Indians may seek a finger spinner who can finish games when needed. Meanwhile, DC and PBKS have room to pursue someone like Phillips aggressively; he could be an excellent addition to any team.
The remaining six teams, including his former teams Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad, might also join the potential bidding war for this talented Blackcaps star.
