Texas Super Kings' Gerald Coetzee Sidelined For MLC 2024 With Side Strain
Texas Super Kings announced on Wednesday, July 10, that their South African fast bowler Gerald Coetzee will miss the rest of Major League Cricket (MLC) 2024 due to an injury.
The 23-year-old, who was playing his second season with TSK, got injured during the tournament opener last week. He managed to take one wicket for 28 runs in his four overs during the team's loss to Los Angeles Knight Riders.

The Super Kings disclosed that Coetzee suffered a "side strain" and wished him a quick recovery in a statement before their next match in MLC 2024. "He (Coetzee) sustained a low grade left side strain during Texas Super Kings' match against Los Angeles Knight Riders on July 5," TSK said in a statement. "The Super Kings wish him well as he recovers and prepares for his international commitments with South Africa."
TSK has not yet named a replacement for Coetzee. However, they included veteran all-rounder Dwayne Bravo in the playing eleven for the game against Washington Freedom on Monday, July 9.
Coetzee, who joined the national team last year, has not played any international matches this year. This includes South Africa's journey to the T20 World Cup 2024 final. He is part of the Test squad for the upcoming series against West Indies.
Future Prospects
With at least a month needed for recovery, Coetzee aims to be fit for the first Test against West Indies. The match is set to begin in Trinidad on August 7, followed by the second Test in Guyana on August 15.
The injury is a setback for both Coetzee and Texas Super Kings as they navigate through MLC 2024 without one of their key players. The team will need to adjust their strategy and lineup accordingly while hoping for Coetzee's swift return to fitness.
