Gautam Gambhir Returns Home Following Family Emergency After India’s Victory Over Australia In First Test
India's head coach, Gautam Gambhir, has unexpectedly returned to India following the team's impressive 295-run win over Australia in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth. Gambhir cited a personal emergency for his departure and informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which approved his leave.
Sources indicate that Gambhir's return is due to a family health issue. "Gambhir has informed us that he will be travelling back home and will join the team before the start of the second Test. He has cited personal reasons, and the BCCI has accepted his request," Indian Express quoted a source as saying.

In Gambhir's absence, assistant coaches Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate, along with bowling coach Morne Morkel and fielding coach T Dilip, will manage the team. This transition comes at a crucial time for Indian cricket as they aim to continue their winning streak.
The victory in Perth was spearheaded by stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah, whose remarkable bowling figures of 8/72 helped propel India to the top of the World Test Championship standings. Gambhir, often criticised for supporting young players like Reddy and Harshit, saw his strategies pay off as these players contributed significantly to the win.
Captain Rohit Sharma has rejoined the squad after missing the Perth Test due to his son's birth. He was seen in the dressing room on Day 4 and later practised with the pink ball on Monday. Australian commentator David Warner remarked on Rohit's practice session, stating, "He is looking nice and sharp... we're looking forward to seeing him back out on the park here on Australian soil."
The Indian team is set to travel to Canberra for a two-day pink-ball practice match starting Saturday. Gambhir is expected back in Australia by December 3, ensuring his presence for the day-night Test in Adelaide beginning December 6.
Upcoming Challenges
India aims to maintain their momentum against Australia in Adelaide. The team's preparation includes adapting to conditions with pink-ball practice sessions. With Rohit Sharma back and Gambhir expected soon, India looks forward to continuing their strong performance.
The upcoming matches are critical as India seeks to solidify its position in international cricket. The support staff's role becomes vital during this period of transition until Gambhir resumes his duties with the team.
