‘Team Over Self’: Gautam Gambhir On His Aggressive Cricket Strategy
Gautam Gambhir, the new head coach of Team India, has emphasised that his on-field aggression is solely for the team's benefit. He believes cricket is a team sport and not about individual performances.
Known for his aggressive playing style, Gambhir has carried this trait into his management roles. His time as a mentor with IPL teams Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders showcased his confrontational nature.

Gambhir's on-field confrontations, especially with Virat Kohli during IPL matches, highlight his readiness to face challenges and defend his team. He does not shy away from standing up for his players.
In an interview with Star Sports, Gambhir explained the reason behind his aggression as he prepares to lead Team India in their upcoming tour to Sri Lanka for six white-ball games. "Whether I've been aggressive on the cricket field, whether I've had confrontations with people, just because it was all in the best interest of the team," he said.
He further added, "So, go out there and only think of one thing, that try and make your team win. Whichever team you play for, because that is what team sports demands. It is not an individual sport where you think about your own self."
Principles and Honesty
Gambhir also stressed playing with honesty as a core principle of his approach to cricket. He believes that being honest in one's profession will naturally lead to positive results.
"There's only one message, that try and play with honesty. Try and be as honest as you can with your profession. Results will follow," Gambhir stated. He mentioned that when he picked up the bat, he never focused on the results but rather on being true to his profession.
"I've always believed that I have to be as honest as I can to my profession. Live on certain principles, live on certain values," he added. Gambhir encourages doing the right things even if it means going against popular opinion if it benefits the team.
As Gambhir takes charge of Team India, his focus remains on fostering a team-first mentality and instilling honesty in every player's approach to the game.
