Former Teammate Doubts Gautam Gambhir's Longevity As India's Head Coach

Gautam Gambhir has had a remarkable beginning as India's head coach, securing a T20I series victory in his initial assignment. His transition from Rahul Dravid has been impactful, raising expectations for the Indian team's future under his guidance.

Former India player Joginder Sharma, however, believes Gambhir's tenure might be brief. In a conversation with YouTuber Shubhankar Mishra, Sharma expressed doubts about Gambhir's ability to maintain harmony within the team.

"Gautam Gambhir team ko sambhalne wala hai lekin par mera ye manna hai ki Gautam Gambhir jyada lambe samay tak tik nahi payega (Gautam Gambhir is the one who can take care of the team, but I believe that Gautam Gambhir will not survive long)," Sharma stated during the interview.

Despite these concerns, Gambhir boasts an impressive coaching record. Under his leadership, the Lucknow Super Giants reached the playoffs twice. Additionally, Kolkata Knight Riders clinched their third IPL title this year with Gambhir at the helm for just one season.

Joginder Sharma was a teammate of Gambhir during India's victorious 2007 T20 World Cup campaign. He bowled the final over and took Mishbah-ul-Haq's wicket to secure India's win. Knowing Gambhir well, Sharma believes that his decision-making style might cause friction within the team.

Potential Conflicts in Decision-Making

"This is because Gautam Gambhir has his own decisions. It might happen that he has a disagreement with a player. I am not talking about Virat Kohli. Many times, Gautam Gambhir's decisions are such that others do not like them," he added.

Despite potential conflicts, Joginder praised Gambhir's work ethic and integrity. "Gautam Gambhir is straightforward. He is not going to go to someone and flatter one. We are the ones who give him credit. He works from the bottom of his heart; he works with dignity and honesty," Joginder further added.
