Uthappa Highlights Gambhir's Empathetic Leadership, Comparing To Dravid

Robin Uthappa has highlighted that his former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain, Gautam Gambhir, is approachable and empathetic. This contrasts with the reserved and serious image often portrayed on social media.

Uthappa emphasised Gambhir's ability to provide a sense of security to his players. He mentioned that Gambhir's leadership style is evident in his roles at Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and KKR. "He looks after his players really well and he is someone who provides security for the group. We have seen that, not just as a captain, but in his mentorship roles at LSG and KKR. We have seen the results he has produced with both teams," Uthappa added.

Rohit Sharma had earlier praised Rahul Dravid's humility and adaptability in an Instagram post after Dravid's tenure ended following India's T20 World Cup 2024 victory. Uthappa believes Gambhir shares similar qualities, providing a secure environment for his team.

Uthappa vouched for Gambhir's ability to create opportunities for players to excel on big occasions. He explained how Gambhir thrives under pressure and views significant stages as opportunities. "He has always been someone who has thrived under pressure. He is someone who looked at the big stages as places of opportunity. As far as I am concerned, I look at him similarly as a leader of this group," Uthappa said.

According to Uthappa, Gambhir will instil the same attitude in his players, encouraging them to seize opportunities. "He will look for the big opportunity, he will try and get that same attitude and the same kind of performance from his players. He will create opportunities for people to thrive, and he will create an environment like that, I can vouch for it," he added.

Uthappa also described Gambhir as an incredible leader who creates infrastructures within the team that allow individuals to thrive. "He is not just a great captain, a great tactician but he is an incredible leader of men. He is an incredible leader of people," Uthappa stated.

Gambhir's approach ensures that players operate from a place of security rather than insecurity. "I believe in people operating from a place of security so that they can thrive rather than operating from a place of insecurity where they try to survive," Uthappa concluded.

"He has been an incredible man manager. The narrative that is set about him as a player on social media is one that is quite 'Gambhir'. But, I think, individually, he is a thorough gentleman. He will be absolutely approachable. He is someone who is always available, he is very empathetic and he is there for his players," Robin Uthappa told IndiaToday.in.
