Gautam Gambhir Takes Over As India's Cricket Team Coach From Rahul Dravid
The BCCI has named Gautam Gambhir as the new coach of the Indian cricket team. This announcement was made on Tuesday, July 9, marking Gambhir's succession of Rahul Dravid.
Gautam Gambhir is now the 25th individual to take on the role of coaching the Indian team. He follows a long line of coaches who have led the national squad.

The first coach of the Indian cricket team was Keki Tarapore in 1971. Tarapore, who hailed from Mumbai (then Bombay), played one Test match for India.
With Gambhir's appointment, he becomes the 25th person to coach the Indian cricket team. He is also the 21st Indian to hold this position.
India has had four foreign coaches: John Wright, Greg Chappell, Gary Kirsten, and Duncan Fletcher.
Among these 25 coaches, Ravi Shastri and Sanjay Bangar have had multiple stints. Bangar served twice as interim coach, while Shastri had an interim stint in 2007, was Team Director from 2014-16, and then had a full coaching tenure.
Longest Serving India Coach
Ravi Shastri holds the record for being the longest-serving coach of the Indian cricket team with a combined tenure exceeding six years.

Rahul Dravid's tenure has been notably successful for India. Under his guidance, India reached the final of the 50-over World Cup, won the T20 World Cup, and played in a WTC cycle final.
