Gautam Gambhir Eyes WTC Title To Craft Legacy Beyond Rahul Dravid's Achievements

Gautam Gambhir has taken over as Team India's head coach, succeeding Rahul Dravid. His first assignment will be the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, which includes three T20Is and three ODIs.

Under Dravid's guidance, India reached the WTC 2023 final but lost to Australia. Despite this, Dravid celebrated a significant achievement by winning the T20 World Cup as a coach. India's trophy cabinet now boasts two ODI World Cups (1983, 2011), two T20I World Cups (2007, 2024), and two Champions Trophies (2002, 2013).

Gambhir Targets WTC Glory

However, India has yet to win the WTC title despite being runners-up in the first two editions. Gambhir aims to change this by making necessary adjustments to turn India into a dominant force in the third cycle of the WTC.

For this transformation, Gambhir will rely on India's key Test players: Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah. These players have consistently performed well in Test cricket and are aware of their team's past shortcomings in WTC finals against New Zealand and Australia.

Gambhir is determined to bring out the best in his teammates to win the WTC trophy for the first time. Achieving this would make Team India only the second team to win all major ICC titles across formats.

Current Standings and Future Matches

Currently, Team India leads the WTC 2023/25 points table with a 68.51% success rate from six wins, two draws, and one loss in nine games. The next Test series for Rohit Sharma's team is scheduled against Bangladesh in September at Chepauk and Kanpur.

The players are motivated by their past near-misses and are eager to secure their first WTC title under Gambhir's leadership. This new chapter under Gambhir promises an exciting journey for Indian cricket fans.
