Faf Du Plessis Expresses Doubts About His Future In IPL Auction 2025
Faf du Plessis, a prominent figure in cricket, is currently showcasing his skills in the Abu Dhabi T10 tournament. Despite his impressive form, he remains uncertain about his prospects in the IPL 2025 auction. The former Royal Challengers Bangalore captain has expressed doubts about his future in the league, despite his fitness and experience.
Du Plessis has been delivering outstanding performances for Morrisville Samp Army in the T10 league. His recent innings include a remarkable *76 off 26 balls* and two half-centuries in just four matches. However, when discussing his IPL future, he acknowledged the unpredictable nature of the auction process.

"You never know with IPL. I've played a lot of cricket in the IPL, and I know with auctions, nothing is guaranteed. I don't even know what's going on. I don't think my name has come up yet. So let's see. I mean, there's a lot of batters already been picked up. So let's see what happens," du Plessis remarked.
Since debuting in 2012, Faf du Plessis has played 145 IPL matches, scoring 4,571 runs at an average of 35.99. He has hit 37 half-centuries with a top score of 96 and contributed significantly to Chennai Super Kings' victories in 2018 and 2021. His power-hitting includes 421 fours and 166 sixes.
In the 2024 IPL Auction, RCB secured him for Rs 7 crore. His last appearance was against Rajasthan at Narendra Modi Stadium in May 2024, where he scored 17 runs off 14 balls.
Despite uncertainties surrounding his IPL future, du Plessis's dedication to fitness and form remains unwavering. His recent T10 performances highlight his enduring talent and commitment to staying competitive at high levels.
"I'm still very motivated for my own personal games. So if you're motivated to keep improving and making sure that your performance is always at a level where you're competing amongst the great players of the world, I still have that drive within myself to do that, and I'll push that for as long as that drive is there," he said. "Mentally, I'm still fresh, and from a physical point of view, I still feel very motivated and fresh as well."
IPL Auction Dynamics and Age Factor
At age 40, du Plessis remains one of the fittest players in franchise cricket due to his disciplined fitness routine. However, age could impact his auction prospects as teams often prefer younger players for long-term plans.
The IPL auction can be tough for seasoned players like du Plessis who face competition from emerging talents. Teams often prioritise younger players with potential longevity over experienced veterans.
The upcoming IPL auction will determine if franchises still value du Plessis or opt for younger talent instead. Meanwhile, he continues to excel by scoring runs and maintaining fitness while keeping a positive mindset.
The second day of the IPL Auction on November 25 will reveal whether du Plessis secures another season in the league. Regardless of the outcome, fans continue to admire him as a legend whose passion for cricket inspires many.
