Entertainer's Cricket League Elevates Indian Creators To Global Fame
The Entertainer's Cricket League (ECL) is a unique cricket league in India, featuring some of the internet's most influential personalities. The league aims to leverage the fame of these personalities to create an engaging and competitive cricketing event.
Each franchise in the ECL is led by a prominent content creator. Teams are selected through a draft from a pool of 250 popular creators, narrowing down to 96 participants. These creators come from diverse fields such as technology, finance, infotainment, education, motivation & self-help, entertainment, gaming, fashion, and lifestyle.

The captains of the franchises include Abhishek Malhan, Elvish Yadav, Munawar Faruqui, Sonu Sharma, Anurag Dwivedi, and Harsh Beniwal. In an exclusive interview with IANS, ECL co-founders Himanshu Chandnani and Anil Kumar shared insights about their project and vision for the league.
"Big Boss has been crucial for the growth of the social media celebrity industry so we chose Elvish, Malhan, and Munawar. Harsh has been a prominent face of this industry and even done cameos in movies," said Himanshu.
Anurag and Sonu also bring variety to our group. These six captains are just the beginning as we plan to explore many different categories like tech and gaming. There will be 90 more players/creators selected for the league," he added.
While the ECL shares some similarities with the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL), it stands apart in significant ways. "I have worked with the Celebrities Cricket League and watched every game live. Some people did perform well but playing with a leather ball is very different and difficult compared to tennis ball cricket," said co-founder Anil Kumar.
"Almost all Indians have played gully cricket with tennis balls. If we chose to hold a leather-ball tournament then some players may not be able to perform. That is why we have chosen this format as we will select good creators and players for a competitive style of game," he explained.
Community Engagement and Exposure
The ECL aims to bring together the entire community, leading to shared audiences among influencers. "The players with lesser followers will benefit hugely as they get a platform where they associate with top members of their field," said Himanshu.
Harshit Rana and Rinku Singh are examples of lesser-known players getting deserved exposure through IPL. "We expect nearly a billion people watching this league so brands associated will benefit widely," he added.
Launch Success and Future Aspirations
The launch garnered close to 10,000 reels on social media. More than 60 full-length videos were posted by media houses getting close to 1 million views. "We hope to be valued at 1000 crores by the end of the first season," said Anil.
"We are targeting 100 crore viewers by season's end. The number of views in each reel already takes us close to our target," he added.
Global Ambitions
Influencer boxing has gained immense popularity in the US and UK with large-scale events selling out arenas. Influencers like Logan Paul and Jake Paul have faced off against world-renowned fighters such as Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson.
The ECL aspires to host similar events on a global scale for the influencer community. "Our plan is to start with one season for now and then hope that we can take this internationally," said Anil.
"India loves content creation and cricket so we brought them together. Once the first season ends, we will decide how many seasons we can have," he added.
Expanding Beyond Cricket
"We are not just stuck to cricket; once we decide to expand, we can conduct more sporting events with more influencers," concluded Himanshu. "We recently held a Kabaddi event with creators as well."
