Buttler Calls For England's Resilience After T20 World Cup Setback

Jos Buttler has urged his England team to regroup and push forward as they face the possibility of an early exit from the T20 World Cup. England suffered a 36-run defeat to Australia on Saturday in Bridgetown, placing them fourth in Group B. With Scotland set to play Oman on Sunday, England's chances of advancing are in jeopardy.

Buttler emphasised the need for reigning champions England to perform well in their remaining group matches to defend their title. "We need to play with a lot of confidence," he stated. "It's all laid out what we need to do, so we need to dust ourselves down and go again."

England's T20 World Cup Comeback Call

Buttler was England's top scorer with 42 runs as the team ended their innings at 165-6 from 20 overs. Captain Phil Salt, who opened with Buttler, started strong, helping the team reach 73 without loss. However, Salt's dismissal by Adam Zampa, followed by Buttler's wicket, derailed England's chase of a 202-run target.

"We did have a bright start," Buttler noted. "Outside the powerplay was always going to be the challenge; we saw that in their innings. Credit to Australia, Adam Zampa bowled very well and their pacers were disciplined in the middle overs."

Buttler acknowledged Australia's effective bowling strategy. "They came out with a lot of intent and put us under pressure straight away. It was tough to drag it back from there," he said. "They bowled really well in that middle phase, took wickets at regular times, and defended effectively."

Jofra Archer was a standout for England, taking 1-28 and avoiding significant damage as he continues his comeback from injury. "He bowled really well," Buttler said of Archer. "It looks like he hasn't been away at all. He is a great bowler to call on as a captain. He's got so much variety and skill, and we're lucky to have him back."

Zampa was named player of the match for his performance, taking 2-28. The spinner has taken at least one wicket in each of his last 12 innings at the T20 World Cup, including two in each of his last four matches.

"We've played against England a lot, so we know a lot about their players," Zampa commented. "We've played here before and knew about the long grease side. It was difficult to hit sixes out there, and we made it our game plan."

Zampa highlighted Australia's strategic depth in bowling. "It is one of those places you don't know about until you bowl a few balls on," he said. "I was just keen to get some pace on and aim at the stumps. We have great depth with our bowling attack; we all have different roles and you saw some of us bowling defensively to stop runs."

England will need to reassess their strategy as they prepare for their upcoming matches, aiming to stay in contention for the T20 World Cup title.
