T20 World Cup 2024: England's Challenge Against European Teams Unresolved After Scotland Match Abandoned
England's wait to secure a victory against a European team in the T20 World Cup continued after their first-ever meeting in the shortest format against Scotland on Tuesday, June 4, was abandoned due to rain in Bridgetown, Barbados.
The T20 World Cup 2024 Group B encounter between England and Scotland at the Kensington Oval was called off after rain prevented any further play. Opting to bat after a delayed start, Scotland posted 90/0 in 10 overs before showers returned.

While England have not faced most teams from the continent, they have never beaten a European side at a Men's T20 World Cup. The rain ensured that this record remained intact in Barbados.
In their four previous matches against European opposition, England has lost three, while one more game resulted in no outcome, similar to the one against Scotland in 2024. England had faced Netherlands and Ireland before meeting Scotland for the first time in the shortest format.
- 2009: ENG vs NED - Netherlands won by 4 wickets at Lord's in London, United Kingdom
- 2010: ENG vs IRE - No Result at Guyana National Stadium in Providence, Guyana
- 2014: ENG vs NED - Netherlands won by 45 runs at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, Bangladesh
- 2022: ENG vs IRE - Ireland won by 5 runs (DLS Method) at MCG in Melbourne, Australia
- 2024: ENG vs SCO - No Result at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados
The reigning champions will be disappointed that the game was called off as they look to progress from a group that also includes Australia, Namibia, and Oman apart from Scotland.
Jos Buttler's England will hope for a full match on Saturday, June 8, against Australia at the same venue. Scotland also will aim to get a win on the board when they face Namibia on Thursday, June 6.
