Bashir's Five-Wicket Haul Secures England Series Victory Over West Indies

England clinched a series victory against West Indies with a commanding 243-run win at Trent Bridge, thanks to Shoaib Bashir's five-wicket haul. Bashir's impressive figures of 5-41 propelled England to victory in just one session on the fourth day of the second Test.

Starting the day at 248-3, Joe Root and Harry Brook laid a solid foundation for England. Root scored 122, marking his 32nd Test century, while Brook achieved his first Test century with 109 runs. This set West Indies a challenging target of 385 runs to win.

The tourists initially showed promise by scoring 61-0 in the first 13 overs. However, Chris Woakes quickly dismissed openers Mikyle Louis and Kraigg Brathwaite, finishing with figures of 2-28. This marked the beginning of West Indies' downfall.

Joe Root's century was significant as it brought him closer to Alastair Cook's record of Test centuries for England. Root also surpassed Shivnarine Chanderpaul to become the eighth all-time run-scorer in Test cricket with a total of 11,870 runs.

This victory marks England's first series win since their tour of Pakistan in 2022. They now aim for a clean sweep when they face West Indies in the final Test at Edgbaston starting on Friday.
