England's Brydon Carse Banned Three Months For Cricket Betting

England fast bowler Brydon Carse has been suspended for three months following an anti-corruption investigation by the newly formed Cricket Regulator.

Carse accepted the charges, admitting to breaching ECB gambling regulations by placing 303 bets on cricket matches from 2017 to 2019. He did not bet on games he was participating in but placed money on Durham games.

Carse Banned for Betting

After considering mitigating factors, Carse received a 16-month ban, with 13 months suspended. The player will serve a three-month ban now, which leaves him unable to play until August 28, excluding him from England's Test series against West Indies.

An ECB spokesperson stated, "We take these matters very seriously and do not condone any form of anti-corruption breach in cricket."

"We support the Cricket Regulator's decision and their consideration of the mitigating factors in Brydon's case. He has co-operated and shown remorse for his actions. We are satisfied that Brydon has shown growth in the five years since this breach and has demonstrated a greater understanding of his responsibilities," the spokesperson added.

Carse, 28, has represented England in 17 limited-overs formats and was part of the squad for the World Cup 2023 in India. He was also awarded a two-year deal in the ECB's latest round of central contracts. Although he has not yet been involved in the Test setup, he was highlighted by Rob Key as crucial to England's future plans, especially with the impending retirements of James Anderson and Stuart Broad creating more opportunities in red-ball cricket for pacers.

The 28-year-old is expected to learn from his mistakes and is likely to return to the squad after the completion of his ban tenure.
