Pope's Century Anchors England To Commanding 416 On Day One Against WI
Ollie Pope's century set the tone for England as they began the second Test against West Indies with a commanding performance.
Pope scored 121 from 165 balls at Trent Bridge on Thursday, helping England to a total of 416 all out.
Despite Zak Crawley's early dismissal for a duck, England's batters shone in Nottingham. Ben Duckett dazzled with a rapid 71 off 59 balls, including 14 boundaries. Duckett and Pope built a partnership of 104 runs.
Duckett was eventually caught by Jason Holder, who took four catches in the innings. However, Pope ensured England remained in control with his superb innings. By the time Alzarri Joseph dismissed him, England had reached 281-5.
Captain Ben Stokes added an entertaining 69 runs to the total. Jamie Smith (36) and Chris Woakes (37) also made quick contributions. Shoaib Bashir's wicket in the final over capped off a fantastic day for England.

Data Debrief: Speedy Duckett into the History Books
Duckett needed just 32 deliveries to reach his half-century, maintaining a pace typical of T20 matches. This achievement marks the third-fastest fifty in England's Test history.
He matched Ian Botham's record against New Zealand in 1986. Jonny Bairstow holds second place with his effort against New Zealand in 2022 (30 balls), while Botham leads with his record against India in 1981 (28 balls).
The first Test saw England's bowlers dominate at Lord's, but this time it was their batsmen who took centre stage. Despite Crawley's early exit, Duckett and Pope steadied the ship with their impressive partnership.
Pope's knock was crucial as he anchored the innings after Duckett fell to Holder. The middle order also contributed significantly to push England past the 400-run mark.
This strong batting display has put England in a favourable position as they look to build on their first Test victory over West Indies.
