T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8: England Clinches Victory Against West Indies
Defending champions England triumphed over West Indies by eight wickets in their first Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup 2024. The match took place at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet in St Lucia on Thursday, June 20.
England successfully chased down the 181-run target in just 17.3 overs, thanks to an unbeaten 87-run knock from Phil Salt. The England opener's innings included seven fours and five sixes. His partnership with Jos Buttler (25) yielded 67 runs off 46 balls.

Spin-bowling all-rounder Moeen Ali, who came in at number three, managed to score only 13 off 10 balls. However, Jonny Bairstow provided excellent support to Salt with an unbeaten 48 off 26 balls. Salt notably collected 30 runs from the 16th over bowled by Romario Shepherd.
England's batters were dominant from the start, amassing 58 runs without losing any wicket during the powerplay. They then scored 25 runs for the loss of one wicket between overs seven and ten before bouncing back with another 58 runs for the loss of one wicket in the next five overs. The final 40 runs came in just 15 balls.
West Indies' Innings
Earlier, England restricted West Indies to 180/4 after opting to bowl first. West Indies were cruising at 102/1 after 12 overs but were slowed down by effective bowling from England in the middle and death overs. Despite good starts from their top four batters, no West Indies player managed to score a fifty.
Opener Brandon Kings, who scored 23 off 13 balls, retired hurt due to a groin injury. Jofra Archer, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, and Moeen Ali each took a wicket for England.
