Top New Stars of T20 World Cup 2024

Let's delve into the top five emerging stars who made a notable impact in the Super Eight stage of this ongoing tournament:

Few expected Axar Patel to feature in every match for India in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Yet, the Delhi Capitals all-rounder has shown his worth in all aspects of the game.

Against Afghanistan, Axar's crucial 12 runs off 6 balls in the final over helped India surpass 180 runs. His spell of 1/15 in three overs included taking Ibrahim Zadran's key wicket.

Although he struggled against Bangladesh with both bat and ball, Axar rebounded with an outstanding performance against Australia. He didn't bat but took a stunning one-handed catch of Mitchell Marsh and bowled a tight two-over spell conceding only 9 runs while dismissing Marcus Stoinis.

Naveen-ul-Haq has risen significantly over recent years. He has proven his skills for Lucknow Super Giants and is often chosen over established bowlers like Mark Wood.

Naveen had a tough time against India but bounced back with a brilliant spell of 3/20 against Australia. He dismissed Travis Head for a duck and took Australian captain Mitchell Marsh's wicket.

The seamer also played a crucial role in Afghanistan's win over Bangladesh by dismissing their skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shakib al Hasan on consecutive deliveries before cleaning up the tail to secure an 8-run victory.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz (Afghanistan)

Rahmanullah Gurbaz has been Afghanistan's top scorer in four matches during this campaign. His rise has been evident as he consistently scores against top teams in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup.

Despite failing to score against India, Gurbaz made a strong comeback against Australia by scoring 60 runs off 49 balls on a challenging pitch at Amos Vale Ground in St. Vincent.

Though criticized for his slow-paced innings of 43 runs off 55 balls with 32 dot balls, Gurbaz held one end till the 16th over. This helped Afghanistan post an above-par total of 115 runs.

Shivam Dube (India)

Shivam Dube proved his selection ahead of established finishers like Rinku Singh and Dinesh Karthik was justified after multiple failures on tough pitches at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

Dube contributed significantly on spin-friendly pitches in the Caribbean Islands by scoring 72 runs off 53 balls at a strike rate above 135. He often faced top bowlers between the 10th and 18th overs of the innings.

Tristan Stubbs (South Africa)

Tristan Stubbs continued his impressive form from the Indian Premier League into the T20 World Cup. He became a key player in South Africa's middle order by scoring 61 runs at an average of 61.00 without getting out against USA and England.

Stubbs also top-scored for South Africa in their crucial match against West Indies by scoring 29 runs during a run-chase of 123 runs as per Duckworth-Lewis Method. His partnership with Klaasen helped South Africa achieve their target with five balls remaining.

The performances of these emerging stars have added excitement to this year's T20 World Cup. Their contributions have been vital for their respective teams' success as they head into the semi-finals.
