Duleep Trophy 2024 Sees India's Test Cricket Stars In Action

The Duleep Trophy 2024 squads have been announced, generating significant excitement in India, where cricket is passionately followed. India's next Test match against Bangladesh begins on September 19. However, many of the regular Test players will be participating in the Duleep Trophy starting early next month.

In a clear move to promote domestic cricket, the BCCI has taken a firm stance since the beginning of the year. Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan lost their central contracts for not participating in domestic matches. This decision underscores the importance placed on domestic tournaments by the board.

Reports surfaced just before the squad announcement that all Test regulars, except Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah, were asked to play in the Duleep Trophy. Hardik Pandya, who last played red-ball cricket in 2018, was also exempted by the BCCI.

The squads feature eleven Test regulars across four teams: Team A, Team B, Team C, and Team D. Players like Ishan Kishan, Washington Sundar, KS Bharat, Suryakumar Yadav, Dhruv Jurel, Sarfaraz Khan, Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna, Devdutt Padikkal and Rajat Patidar are included. These players have already debuted for India in Tests.

Additionally, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Khaleel Ahmed, Avesh Khan, Sai Sudharsan and Saurabh Kumar are also part of the squads. Although they haven't played a Test match for India yet, they are seen as potential future contenders. Gaikwad, Easwaran, Avesh and Saurabh have previously been named in India’s Test squads.

Furthermore, ten Indian Test regulars will participate at least in the first round of matches starting from September 5 in Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh. These include Shubman Gill (Team A), KL Rahul (Team A), Kuldeep Yadav (Team A), Yashasvi Jaiswal (Team B), Rishabh Pant (Team B), Ravindra Jadeja (Team B), Mohd Siraj (Team B), Mukesh Kumar (Team B), Shreyas lyer (Team D) and Axar Patel (Team D).
