In a thrilling finale to the DP World ILT20 Season 3, the Dubai Capitals showcased resilience and strategic prowess to clinch their first-ever championship title, defeating the Desert Vipers with four wickets to spare. This victory not only marked the culmination of a season filled with intense competition and outstanding performances but also rewarded the Capitals with a hefty cash prize of USD 700,000, leaving the Vipers with USD 300,000.

The match, held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, saw the Capitals chasing a formidable target of 189. The chase was characterized by significant contributions from key players, including Sikandar Raza, whose explosive 34 off just 12 balls in the closing stages, was crucial in securing the win. Rovman Powell and Shai Hope laid a solid foundation for the chase with their innings of 63 and 43, respectively.

The Desert Vipers, on the other hand, put up a commendable total thanks to Max Holden's 76 and Sam Curran's unbeaten 62, embellished with five fours and three sixes. Despite losing early wickets, these performances kept the Vipers in contention. Azam Khan's cameo of 27 runs added late momentum, setting a challenging target for the Capitals.

Early in their innings, the Capitals faced setbacks with David Warner and other top-order batsmen falling cheaply, leaving them struggling at 39/3. However, a recovery was mounted by Hope and Powell, whose partnership stabilised the innings. Despite the loss of Hope and Dasun Shanaka in quick succession, the Capitals' pursuit remained undeterred, setting the stage for Raza's heroic finish.

Raza's performance in the final overs was a testament to the team's depth and ability to perform under pressure. Earlier, the Capitals' bowlers, including Obed McCoy and Haider Ali, had managed to restrict the Vipers despite Holden's aggressive batting. The match was a perfect blend of strategic bowling, determined batting, and moments of fortune, such as Powell benefiting from a no-ball when he was on two runs.

Reflecting on the match, Rovman Powell, named Player of the Match, expressed his satisfaction with the team's calm approach and his personal redemption in the final. "Credit to the guys in the dressing room, the message was to just stay calm. The competition has been silent for me, but today in the final I wanted to prove myself. In the final, big players stand up. I'm disappointed to get out but glad we got through."

The victory was a collective effort, highlighted by Sikandar Raza's late heroics and supported by significant innings from Powell and Hope. This win marked the Capitals' dominance over the Vipers, having beaten them for the sixth consecutive time.

In addition to the thrilling match, the season's individual awards added to the celebration. Shai Hope was awarded the Green Belt for being the best batter, while Sam Curran received the Red Belt as the Most Valuable Player, despite the Vipers' loss. Curran shared his reflections on the match and the season, "It was an amazing game and a small accolade (Red Belt), it is tough to take it when you lose. It is one of the most enjoyable teams I have been in my career. A thoroughly professional setup and hopefully one better next year."

Further accolades were presented to MI Emirates' players, with Fazalhaq Farooqi securing the White Belt as the best bowler and Muhammad Waseem earning the Blue Belt for the best UAE player for a third consecutive season.

The final scores of the match were Desert Vipers 189/5 in 20 overs against Dubai Capitals 191/6 in 19.2 overs. This season finale not only crowned a new champion but also celebrated the spirit of cricket with exemplary performances and memorable moments, setting the stage for an eagerly anticipated Season 4.
