DP World ILT20: Shoaib Akhtar And Virender Sehwag Highlight Impact On Regional Cricket Talent
The DP World International League T20 is set to launch its third season on January 11, 2025, bringing together cricketing talent from the UAE and beyond. Icons of the sport, Virender Sehwag and Shoaib Akhtar, recently shared their insights on the league's contribution to cricket at the Season 3 launch event in Dubai Marina.
Virender Sehwag, a celebrated figure in cricket, highlighted the league's positive impact on players from the UAE and countries like Afghanistan over its previous two seasons. He pointed out the improvement in their performances in ICC tournaments, attributing it to the experience gained in the DP World ILT20.

Sehwag specifically noted the invaluable learning opportunities the league offers to UAE players. He elaborated on how playing alongside nine international stars enables local players to learn from their extensive experience, not just during matches but also in practice sessions and pressure situations.
Shoaib Akhtar, known as the Rawalpindi Express and associated with the competition since its second season, also acknowledged the league's significance. He hailed it as a talent incubator for GCC countries, praising its role in promoting cricket growth.
Akhtar underscored the league's unique position among international cricket leagues, lauding the efforts of DP World, the organizers, the broadcasters, and the Emirates Cricket Board for facilitating easy collaborations. He admired the league's ability to merge cricket with entertainment, bringing a superior quality of cricket to the region reminiscent of the iconic India-Pakistan matches in Sharjah.
Reflecting on his personal experiences, Sehwag recalled playing with cricketing greats such as Glenn McGrath, AB de Villiers, and Tillakaratne Dilshan. He shared how their guidance and shared experiences significantly influenced his career, drawing parallels with the opportunities the DP World ILT20 offers to UAE cricketers. This, according to Sehwag, is an experience local players cannot find elsewhere, underlining the league's importance in shaping the careers of emerging talents.
The upcoming season promises an exciting month of cricket, with a total of 34 matches scheduled between January 11 and February 9, 2025. The final match is set for Sunday, February 9, promising cricket fans a spectacular culmination of the tournament.
