Dodda Ganesh Appointed As Head Coach For Kenya's Cricket Team
Dodda Ganesh, a former Indian pacer, has been appointed as the head coach of Kenya's men's cricket team. This significant appointment comes just before the Africa Qualifiers for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Ganesh, who is 51 years old, had a brief international career with India, playing in four Tests and one ODI. However, he found greater success in first-class cricket with Karnataka, where he scored over 2000 runs and took 365 wickets.

Kenya has a notable history in cricket, having participated in five World Cups between 1996 and 2011. Their best performance was in 2003 when they reached the semifinals under the guidance of Indian head coach Sandeep Patil. Unfortunately, Kenyan cricket has experienced a decline since then.
The team will compete against Papua New Guinea, Qatar, Denmark, and Jersey in the ICC Division 2 Challenge League this September. Additionally, they will participate in the T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers in October. The men's 2026 T20 World Cup will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
Kenya's cricket team has only qualified for one edition of the T20 World Cup back in 2007. Since then, their performance has not met expectations, leading to a downward trend. Ganesh expressed his excitement about his new role on social media following his appointment.
"Privileged to be named the head coach of the Kenya cricket team," he posted on 'X'.

Support from Former Players
A video shared by the media shows Ganesh interacting with senior Kenya cricket officials. He will be supported by former Kenyan internationals Lameck Onyango and Joseph Angara as his deputies to assist him in this challenging task.
The task ahead is daunting but Ganesh seems optimistic about making a significant impact. His experience in first-class cricket could prove invaluable as he takes on this new challenge.
