Karthik Names Four Players To Succeed Kohli And Rohit In India's T20I Line-up

Dinesh Karthik has identified four players who can step in for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, following their retirement from T20Is after India's victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies.

The departure of these senior players has opened opportunities for the next generation of India's T20I stars. Dinesh Karthik, a former teammate of Kohli and Rohit, has selected four players to fill their spots in the T20I team.

Karthik named Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, and Shubman Gill as potential replacements for Kohli and Sharma. He also mentioned that Yashasvi Jaiswal is expected to be a regular in India's T20I lineup.

"First of all, they (Rohit and Kohli) are very hard to replace, but in the XI, I do think there are four choices at the moment. There's Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, and Shubman Gill. I think Yashasvi Jaiswal will definitely be starting in the XI in T20I cricket," Dinesh Karthik told Cricbuzz.

Among Karthik's picks, Shubman Gill is the only one included in India's squad for the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka. Gill recently captained the Indian team during their five-match T20I tour of Zimbabwe.

Abhishek Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad were part of that series but did not make it into Suryakumar Yadav's squad for the Sri Lanka T20Is. Tilak Varma last played a T20I match for India in August 2023.

Upcoming Series Lineup

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill are anticipated to open the batting in the series starting on July 27. Sanju Samson and Riyal Parag are also included in the squad.

The transition marks a significant shift as India prepares its younger talents to take on key roles in future T20I matches.
