Dinesh Karthik's Nidahas Trophy Final Knock Becomes YouTube's Most-Viewed Cricket Video
Dinesh Karthik, a stalwart of Indian cricket, bid farewell to the IPL arena after his franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru faced a heart-wrenching defeat against Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2024 Eliminator held in Ahmedabad on May 22.
Karthik, renowned as RCB's designated finisher, fell short of expectations in the high-stakes encounter, managing to score only 11 runs against Rajasthan as his team couldn't post a decent total on the board in a high-stakes contest.

Karthik's journey in the IPL spans across various franchises, including Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, Delhi Daredevils, Gujarat Lions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Kolkata Knight Riders. The veteran cricketer looked emotional at the end of the match and received a guard of honour from his RCB teammates.
With 252 IPL matches under his belt, Karthik amassed 4842 runs, embellished with 22 fifties. His highest score of 97* was achieved during the 2019 edition while leading Kolkata Knight Riders, a team he captained during the 2018-2019 season.
He's the second-highest wicketkeeper in terms of dismissals in IPL history, tallying 174, trailing behind MS Dhoni's 190. His record includes 137 catches and 37 stumpings, both figures falling short of Dhoni's 148 catches and 42 stumpings.
The Tamil Nadu cricketer's tally of 4097 runs while batting at No. 4 or lower in the IPL stands as the second-highest, trailing behind Dhoni's 5047 runs in similar positions. Karthik batted at No. 4 or lower on 204 occasions and he took the crease at No. 3 on 30 occasions. He never opened the batting in the IPL.
His contributions to the IPL franchises he's been associated with have been significant, making him one of the most sought-after wicketkeeper-batters in the league and a prime attraction at the IPL auctions.
However, amid his remarkable IPL journey, Karthik's crowning moment came during the Nidahas Trophy 2018 final against Bangladesh in Colombo. His match-winning knock of 29* off just 8 balls, including a crucial maximum on the final delivery off Saumya Sarkar, etched his name in cricketing folklore. Karthik's heroics secured a memorable victory for Team India, and the video capturing the thrilling final over became an instant sensation.
Uploaded on Sri Lanka Cricket's official YouTube channel after India's dramatic win, the video documenting the tension and excitement of the nail-biting final over between India and Bangladesh has become the most-viewed cricketing video on the platform. With over 245 million views to date, it stands as a testament to one of the finest T20 knocks played by an Indian in the final of a T20 competition.
