Devdutt Padikkal And Dhrul Jurel Set To Join Team India For Perth Test Against Australia

India's cricket team might have hinted at their preferred batting line-up for the first Test against Australia. This comes as they prepare for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener in Perth. The practice session offered insights into who might fill the vacant spots in the batting order.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill's absence leaves India with two gaps to fill. Rohit stayed back for personal reasons, while Gill's thumb injury ruled him out of the series opener on November 22. This has prompted a reshuffle in India's top-order batting strategy.

Padikkal and Jurel Join Team India for Perth Test

The Indian team management faces the challenge of selecting their best playing eleven for the fast-paced Optus Stadium pitch. Only four players are confirmed: Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah, who will lead the bowling attack.

Bowling seems less concerning for India compared to their batting line-up after losing Rohit and Gill. The team must decide on replacements to maintain a strong batting unit against Australia.

Media reports from Australia suggest India's potential XI for Perth. The fielding drills and net sessions indicated that Devdutt Padikkal might be included in the top six, replacing Gill at number three.

Padikkal, recently part of India A, is expected to step in at number three. KL Rahul will likely open alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, filling Rohit's spot. Kohli will bat at four, followed by Rishabh Pant at five.

An additional change could see Jurel being chosen over Sarfaraz Khan for a middle-order position. Jurel's performance with India A has been impressive enough to earn him consideration.

Pace Dominance Expected

India is likely to field three pacers: Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Akash Deep. Jadeja is anticipated as the primary spinner. The seventh spot may go to either Ravichandran Ashwin, Washington Sundar, or Nitish Kumar Reddy.

The Perth pitch is expected to favour pace bowlers. This could lead to Nitish making his Test debut despite Sundar and Ashwin's capabilities with the bat lower down the order.

The Indian team's decisions reflect strategic adjustments necessary due to key player absences. Their choices aim to balance experience and fresh talent against Australia's formidable bowling attack.
