Inaugural Delhi Premier League 2024: Key Players Drafted For Exciting Season Ahead

The much-anticipated player draft for the inaugural Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2024 saw Rishabh Pant, Ishant Sharma, Yash Dhull, Ayush Badoni, Anuj Rawat, and Harshit Rana emerge as standout picks. The event took place on Friday, August 2, in New Delhi and featured 270 cricketers from across Delhi, including national, IPL, and U19 players.

Purani Dilli 6 secured explosive wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant and experienced pacer Ishant Sharma. They also added allrounder Lalit Yadav from the Delhi Capitals and batting allrounder Shivam Sharma. Additionally, they picked 20-year-old opening batsman and off-spinner Arpit Rana and right-arm pacer Prince Yadav.

West Delhi Lions made their first pick with Mumbai Indians tweaker Hrithik Shokeen, followed by fast bowler Navdeep Saini. Their top five picks included middle-order batsman Dev Lakra, bowling allrounder Deepak Punia, and off-spinner Shivank Vashisht.

North Delhi Strikers prioritised pace bowling by selecting fast bowler Harshit Rana. Rana recently impressed in the IPL with 19 wickets in 13 matches and is currently on his maiden tour with the Indian team. They also acquired leg-spinner Suyash Sharma from Kolkata Knight Riders' recent triumph, medium-pacer Pranshu Vijayran, former India U19 player Vaibhav Kandpal, and Kshitiz Sharma.

The top four bidders in the men's franchise auction also secured women's teams comprising top female cricketers from the region. South Delhi Superstars picked ace Indian batting allrounder Shweta Sehrawat as their top choice. East Delhi Riders selected top-order batter Priya Punia while Central Delhi Queens (Central Delhi Kings) drafted wicketkeeper Laxmi Yadav. North Delhi Strikers chose medium-pacer Soni Yadav.

Central Delhi Kings started their draft with prodigious batsman and former India U19 skipper Yash Dhull along with right-handed leg-spinner Prince Choudhary. Their subsequent picks included opening batsman Hiten Dalal, allrounder Jonty Sidhu, and wicketkeeper-batsman Lakshay Thareja.

East Delhi Riders secured hard-hitting wicketkeeper-batsman Anuj Rawat from Royal Challengers Bangalore. Pace bowler Simarjeet Singh was their second Category A acquisition. The Riders bolstered their batting lineup with Himmat Singh, medium-pacer Himanshu Chauhan, and slow left-arm orthodox bowler Harsh Tyagi.

When & Where DPL 2024 Be Played?

The first edition of the DPL will take place from August 17 to September 8, 2024. All matches will be held at Shri Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The T20 league's inaugural season will feature 40 matches: 33 in the men's category and seven in the women's category.

South Delhi Superstars began their draft by acquiring middle-order batsman Ayush Badoni from Lucknow Super Giants. They followed up with left-arm fast bowler Kuldip Yadav, 23-year-old Priyansh Arya, and batting allrounder Sumit Mathur.

This year's draft has set a promising tone for the upcoming season of DPL 2024 with a mix of seasoned players and young talent ready to showcase their skills on a grand stage.
