Delhi Capitals Boost Playoff Hopes With Significant Sixes Tally In IPL 2024

Delhi Capitals (DC) ascended to second place in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024's contest for the most sixes by a team, following their 20-run triumph over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 56th match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday, May 7. The match witnessed a flurry of sixes from both sides, contributing significantly to the season's tally.DC's openers, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abhishek Porel, each dispatched three sixes, setting a robust foundation for their team. Tristan Stubbs continued the momentum with three maximums towards the innings' end, propelling DC to a formidable score of 221. Contributions also came from Captain Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, and Gulbadin Naib, who each added a six to DC's total, pushing their season's count past 120. In contrast, RR's chase saw them nearing 100 sixes for the season, with skipper Sanju Samson leading from the front by hitting six sixes in his knock of 86.The ongoing IPL season is on the verge of setting a new record for the total number of sixes, with close to 1000 maximums already hit in just 56 matches. This puts the league on track to surpass last year's record of 1124 sixes in a 74-game season.

The statistics underscore an intense competition among teams for hitting the most sixes this season. Sunrisers Hyderabad currently leads with 132 sixes in 11 matches, closely followed by Delhi Capitals.In terms of historical performance, Mumbai Indians hold the record for the most sixes by a team in IPL history, followed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru. These teams have managed to hit over or close to 1600 sixes. Other teams like Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders have also surpassed the 1400 mark. Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals are not far behind, with both teams having hit over 1000 sixes.
