David Miller Dismisses T20I Retirement Reports, Vows To Continue

David Miller has refuted claims that he has retired from T20I cricket, confirming his commitment to continue playing for South Africa in this format. These rumours emerged after South Africa's loss to India in the T20 World Cup 2024 final.

Needing 16 runs off the last six balls, Miller hit Hardik Pandya's first delivery towards long off. The ball seemed destined for a six until Suryakumar Yadav made a remarkable juggling catch. This catch virtually sealed India's victory.

Following Miller's dismissal, India was on course to end their 13-year wait for an ICC World Cup title. Hardik Pandya also took Kagiso Rabada's wicket, leading India to a seven-run win. A devastated Miller was seen in tears after South Africa's defeat in their maiden World Cup final.

The 35-year-old quashed retirement rumours through an Instagram Story on Tuesday. "Contrary to reports, I have not retired from T20 international cricket. I will continue to be available for the Proteas. The best is yet to come," Miller wrote.

In a previous story, Miller described South Africa's World Cup defeat as a tough pill to swallow and vowed that the team would keep improving in future ICC events.

"I am gutted!! Really tough pill to swallow after what transpired 2 days ago. Words don't explain how I am feeling. One thing I do know is how proud I am of this unit. This journey was an incredible one, with highs and lows throughout the entire month. We have endured pain, but I know this team has the resilience and will keep raising the bar," Miller had written.

David Miller has played 125 T20I matches for South Africa, scoring 2437 runs at an average of 33.38 and a strike rate of 140.54. He has two centuries and seven fifties in this format.

The next T20 World Cup is set to take place in India and Sri Lanka in 2026.
