Danish Kaneria Urges Vigilance In India Over Bangladesh Unrest Concerns

Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria has warned the Indian government about individuals within the country who might be aiming for a situation similar to the current unrest in Bangladesh.

On Monday, August 5, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina flew to India after her residence was stormed and vandalised by mobs. Reports suggest that China and Pakistan's ISI are behind this unrest, aiming to support anti-India terror groups. Sheikh Hasina's son also accused ISI of involvement and stated that his mother would not return to Bangladesh.

"India, be cautious: Some inside your nation are hoping for a Bangladesh-like scenario. Guard against those trying to incite unrest for their own agendas," Danish Kaneria wrote on X.

The minority Hindu population in Bangladesh is facing attacks, with videos showing extremist groups targeting temples. Kaneria urged Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to step in and assist Hindus in Bangladesh.

"I urge @PMOIndia to intervene immediately to protect Bangladeshi Hindus. We must not abandon our brothers and sisters to the hands of extremists. #SaveBangladeshiHindus," he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Widespread Violence

A report from Bangladesh's Daily Star indicated that mobs attacked Hindu houses and businesses, looting valuables across at least 27 districts. An ISKCON temple in Meherpur, Khulna division, along with a Kali temple, were vandalised and set ablaze.

"One of our ISKCON centres (rented) in Meherpur was burnt, including the deities of Lord Jagannath, Baladev, and Subhadra Devi. Three devotees who lived in the centre somehow managed to escape and survive," ISKCON spokesperson Yudhistir Govinda Das tweeted.

The situation remains tense as authorities try to control the violence and ensure safety for all affected communities.
