Daniel Vettori To Miss IND Vs AUS Perth Test For IPL Mega Auction 2025 Participation

Daniel Vettori will step away from his duties as Australia's assistant coach this week. He is set to join Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for the IPL Mega Auction 2025, which coincides with the start of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The IPL Auction is scheduled for Sunday, November 24, and Monday, November 25, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, the Test match between India and Australia will begin on Friday, November 22, at Optus Stadium in Perth.

Vettori serves as one of three assistants to Andrew McDonald for the Australian team. He will travel to Saudi Arabia to represent SRH at the auction. Appointed as Australia's assistant coach in 2022, Vettori became SRH's head coach in 2024.

Despite his commitments with SRH, Vettori continues his role with the Australian men's team. Cricket Australia confirmed that he will oversee preparations for the Perth Test before heading to the IPL Auction.

"We are very supportive of Dan's role as Head Coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad. Dan will complete final preparation for the first Test before attending the IPL auction. He will then be with team for the remainder of the Border Gavaskar Trophy," an Australia team spokesperson was quoted as saying in ESPNcricinfo.

The experienced coach will join SRH's auction table as they aim to build on their five retentions during the two-day event. Vettori plans to return in time for the second BGT Test in Adelaide.

Key Players Retained by SRH

SRH has retained Australia captain Pat Cummins and batter Travis Head. Nitish Kumar Reddy from India's squad is also retained by the Hyderabad franchise.

Besides Vettori, two former Australian players are also involved in the IPL auction. They currently serve as head coaches for different IPL teams.

Ponting and Langer's Auction Involvement

Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer are part of Australia's Channel Seven commentary team. They will miss part of the Perth Test to attend the auction as head coaches of Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants respectively.
